Period Cottage
Project
Restoration of a Grade II listed cottage in Berkshire
Architect
Donald Insall Associates, London
Meticulously adhering to traditional construction techniques and materials, this 17th Century cottage was carefully restored. All of the walls were re-plastered with lime and horsehair, or wattle and daub, with pigments, not paints, to recreate the original natural effect.
The kitchen was hand built, with old oak timber and stainless steel worktops. Upstairs was reconfigured from three bedrooms into two, each with an ensuite bathroom fitted with high quality sanitary ware.
Underfloor heating, new electrics and plumbing was installed and carefully hidden. A Yorkstone flag floor completed the restoration.
